Indirect measurements of neutron-induced reaction cross sections at storage rings

چکیده

Neutron-induced reaction cross sections of unstable nuclei are essential for understanding the synthesis heavy elements in stars. However, their measurement is very difficult due to radioactivity targets involved. We propose circumvent this problem by using first time surrogate method inverse kinematics at heavy-ion storage rings. In contribution, we describe developments have done perform surrogate-reaction studies rings GSI/FAIR. particular, present results proof principle experiment, which conducted recently Experimental Storage Ring (ESR).

Bayesian Analysis of Inconsistent Measurements of Neutron Cross Sections

The evaluation of neutron cross sections as a function of energy is fraught with inconsistent measurements. I describe a Bayesian approach to deal with the inconsistencies by probabilistically modeling the possibility of discrepant data and data sets with long-tailed likelihood functions. Systematic normalization uncertainties in each data set are included by considering the normalization to be...

Determining neutron-capture cross sections via the surrogate reaction technique

Indirect methods play an important role in the determination of nuclear reaction cross sections that are hard to measure directly. In this paper we investigate the feasibility of using the so-called surrogate method to extract neutron-capture cross sections for low energy compound-nuclear reactions in spherical and near-spherical nuclei. We present the surrogate method and develop a statistical...

Measurement of reaction cross-sections for Y at average neutron energies of 7.24-24.83 MeV

We measured neutron-induced reaction cross-sections for Y(n,γ)Y and Y(n,α)Rb reactions with the average neutron energy region from 7.45 to 24.83 MeV by an activation and off-line γ-ray spectrometric technique using the MC-50 Cyclotron at Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences. The neutron-induced reaction cross-sections of Y as a function of neutron energy were taken from the TEND...

Measuring Reaction Probability Ratios to Simulate Neutron-Induced Cross-sections of Short-Lived Nuclei

Measuring the neutron-induced fission cross-sections of short-lived nuclei represents an experimental challenge due to target activity and the low intensity of neutron beams. One way to alleviate the problems inherent in the direct measurement is to use the surrogate method, where one measures the decay probability of the same compound nucleus formed using a charged beam and a stable target. Th...

Measurements of the neutron activation cross sections for Bi and Co at 386 MeV.

Neutron activation cross sections for Bi and Co at 386 MeV were measured by activation method. A quasi-monoenergetic neutron beam was produced using the (7)Li(p,n) reaction. The energy spectrum of these neutrons has a high-energy peak (386 MeV) and a low-energy tail. Two neutron beams, 0° and 25° from the proton beam axis, were used for sample irradiation, enabling a correction for the contribu...
